The “Do-It-All” freelance roles

How many people do you know that can do it all?

I’ve been seeing a lot of freelance positions for designers similar to the below, looking for a unicorn that can seemingly do it all:

“We are a new, soon-to-launch innovative fashion brand looking for a skilled professional to help create and develop unique, high-quality garments. We are seeking a versatile professional who is experienced at pattern making, sample creation, 3D clothing design, and Tech Pack development, and more. (Upwork)”

Now, I am that person 😉 But, am I 100% confident/competent in each of those areas? No, but at least 3 out of 4.

I realize many of the companies looking to hire these kind of freelancers don’t necessarily have the insight into the industry and its best practices. And probably don’t have the finances to hire a team, but in my opinion, look for 2+ people that can cover all of your needs. If I had my druthers and was hiring a team, I wouldn’t want someone that does it all. I want a designer who excels at product creation, a product development expert who knows their way around a tech pack & a factory, a Class-A pattern maker, and a 3D whiz.

My expertise lies in Product Development and Tech Packages. I can definitely create 3D samples, can offer experienced design opinions, and can look into fit corrections & pattern adjustments (I know people…). If this is something you need, or would like to learn more about, send me a DM!
