Digital Product Creation 101

Everyone seems to be jumping on the 3D bandwagon…why aren’t you?

Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. In reality, very few companies are actually using it.

Here are a few Quick Hits how you can dip your toes into Digital Product Creation with your brand:

#1 Parallel Development: in order to create trust in the 3D image, develop X number of styles in both digital and physical. This will allow team members to compare the samples, analyze the processes of each, and slowly gain confidence each season.

#2 Take Temperatures: discuss the implementation of 3D with all team members and determine who is excited about the prospect of working in digital. That is who you want.

#3 Choose a Category: depending on who is on board in pt #2, this might be obvious. Or maybe you have an issue with prints & graphics eating up calendar time. Or a category that is seeing too many prototypes. Then pick a handful of styles to start.

#4 Hardware & Software: the investment doesn’t have to be outlandish. Start small and add as you go. A good gaming laptop, a 3D software license, and training (if needed) will get you started.

#5 Take Charge: nothing will happen without leadership taking an active role in the implementation during every step, at every level.

There are a few more items that I am leaving off that are important to move forward with quickly after implementation (an avatar that matches the brand’s base body, fabric digitization, digital asset management), but the above points will build a solid foundation.
