Dropbox vs DAM

Dropbox is not a DAM platform!

DAM = Digital Asset Management and it is a key ingredient in any DPC workflow.

Both Dropbox & DAM systems are cloud-based file sharing systems. But that is pretty much where the similarities end.

Dropbox is a big file cabinet in the sky: you put files in it, you take them out.

A DAM is your entire office organization, including the file cabinets.

It’s the flatbed scanner, the copy machine, printer, all of your software platforms along with their functionality, and all of the teams that use your company’s images.

Functions that almost all DAM platforms offer:
-         Instantly convert file formats within the software
- Allows image revising such as cropping & removing backgrounds without having to go into Photoshop or Illustrator
-         Connects instantly to email, social media, Slack, etc. to send files
-         Allows you to partition off and create URLs for outside users. No need to have an account, keeps everything safe & secure, and no need to create new folders just for this one use.
-         Powerful metadata input for ridiculously easy searches
-         Excellent version control
-         Image-driven UX

They tend to be pricier than Dropbox, but you get what you pay for, so don't skimp when it comes to your DPC!
